Behind the Scenes: Lighting an On-Location Shoot
Not every shoot happens in a controlled studio. Sometimes the job means building a full lighting setup outside, adapting to the environment, and making it work no matter what the conditions are.
This behind-the-scenes photo was taken during an on-location shoot where we transformed a parking lot into a working production space. It’s a good example of how much goes into creating professional video and photo content outside of a studio setting.
Turning Any Location Into a Set
When filming on location, you’re working with whatever the environment gives you — changing sunlight, open space, traffic flow, and safety considerations. The goal is to control what you can while staying flexible.
For this shoot, that meant setting up multiple lights to shape the scene, manage shadows, and keep things consistent as the sun moved. Sandbags, proper stands, and spacing weren’t just about the shot — they were about safety and efficiency too.

Natural light is great, but it isn’t always enough. Adding professional lighting on location helps:
